Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the sexual assault of former production assistant Miriam Haley, which took place in 2006. The sentence comes after a previous conviction was overturned and two trials ended without a definitive verdict, closing another chapter in the lengthy legal saga involving the former film producer.
The Haley case was among those that helped bring the allegations against Weinstein into the public spotlight and contributed to the birth of the global #MeToo movement. During the latest proceedings, Haley told the court about the difficulties she had faced over the years and the consequences of the case, including the pressure she experienced during the trial and online harassment.
Weinstein also continues to face proceedings related to his California conviction for the rape and sexual assault of Italian model and actress Evgeniya Chernyshova, which took place at a hotel in Los Angeles in 2013. According to Variety, it will have to be determined whether the California sentence will be served concurrently with or consecutively to the sentence imposed in New York.
