Italy stands with Ukraine and supports the goal of a just and lasting peace. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani reiterated this position during his address to the United Nations Security Council. Tajani condemned Russian attacks against civilian and energy infrastructure in Ukraine and called on Moscow to make a concrete commitment to negotiations.
The Italian foreign minister also denounced what he described as growing hybrid threats attributed to Russia, arguing that they pose a risk to European security. Tajani expressed solidarity with Germany over incidents at Leipzig airport and stressed the need to avoid any escalation.
“Moscow will always find Italy ready to support dialogue and the search for a diplomatic solution,” Tajani said, while recalling Russia’s responsibility as a permanent member of the UN Security Council. “Italy is not at war with the Russian Federation,” he added.
As winter approaches, Rome also renewed its call for an immediate ceasefire and announced a new support package for Ukraine’s energy sector, including the delivery of generators and assistance to families who have lost their homes. Tajani also confirmed Italy’s commitment to the future reconstruction of Ukraine.
